Citizen Forum > SAD 7 Citizens' Action Group
SAD 7 CAG is a new organization of Rio Rancho citizens concerned with the impact of Special Assessment District 7B. We have a website at http://www.sad7.org that contains a Mission Statement, Contact and Meeting schedules. We have reserved the Rio Rancho School Board Building (500 Laser) for General Meetings every Wednesday in March 2008. These meetings start at 7:00 PM and are open to everyone. SAD 7 CAG is opposed to the SAD 7B plan as it exists today, and feels that the process is fundamentally flawed. The concepts of improvements, paving and flood control are good. However, the methods by which Rio Rancho and Wilson & Company have valued the benefits, determined the assessment amounts and justified the entire project are misleading and inaccurate.

SAD7CAG has one more meeting (Thursday, April 17 @5:30 PM in RR School Board Bldg, 500 Laser) before the City Council votes on April 23. Our legal folks have said that the most effective action we can take is to appear at the April 23rd meeting with an affidavit in hand. Give the affidavit to the clerk and read (you will be videotaped) the objections on your affidavit. Keep a copy for yourself. The instructions for signing up to speak are on the City of Rio Rancho's website. Over 1,200 people showed up for the Benefits Hearing in January, and many were turned away. We hope that the April 23rd meeting will not violate any Open Meeting Laws, and we really need everyone to come and speak. We have been given one more chance to make our voices heard. Everyone should go to one Council meeting to see how our taxes are spent and to observe the attitudes of our elected officials. Decide for yourself how the city government works. Don't take SAD7CAG's word for it, or read about it in editorials or on websites like this! Go see for yourself how things are done in Rio Rancho. This is America, and you have every right to participate in a process that will affect your taxes, your environment and your home. If no one participates, then we have only ourselves to blame.
